Life is like a game of cards!
Life is like a game of cards!
One of my favourite expressions is…..
“you can’t choose the (life) cards you’ve been dealt, but you get to play the s**t out of the hand you’ve been given”
Sometime in our lives we get dealt a bad hand. It can just be one of those things or it ca be a part of our own decisions, reactions or emotions. We can’t change what has happened to us or by us but WE CAN do the best to transform a situation, no matter how hard or bleak it may seem.
The first part of this is ACCEPTANCE. Accepting the cars we’ve been dealt. Whether this is a failed marriage, a child with a disability, an illness, or some of the many other obstacles that can come our way. It’s easy to think, “this isn’t fair” “how is this my life” “why me” and get stuck in that place for some time. This builds and builds on the negativity and unhappiness that we feel. Couple that with a glance on any social media platform and it can be easy to spiral into a dark place. Learning to accept what’s happened, accept your situation, accept that it’s not fair but this is what it is, and exploring your part to play in the situation you find yourself in…….. It’s very, very difficult but once you get to that pace you can start to look at the options available.
You can let go of the emotions behind the situation, of the picture of the way you wanted life to be and start to look at the many different perspectives you can approach the life you have now. Changing your perspective is an amazing skill to develop and one I work a lot with in my NLP sessions, it can completely transform a situation/problem releasing your mind from its own restraints and releasing negativity aiding you to become better equipped to tackle the challenges of life, the challenges of the cards you’ve been dealt and to be able to play the s**t out of the hand you’ve got!
